Three Types of Friends

Posted on 07:35 by Unknown
There are three types of friends:
Those like food, without which you cannot live;
Those like medicine, which you need occasionally;
And Those like an illness, which you never want.

-Solomon Ibn Gabirol (1021-1058)
Hebrew poet,
aphorist

An aphorist is someone who formulates aphorisms or who repeats aphorisms.

An aphorism is a short, concise and significant instructive saying.

Twenty-five years ago today:

October 12, 1984
Friday

Another day at the SDC (Sales Development Center) and things, words, story lines are all beginning to develop.

I sat at Earl’s desk today. Earl is in my section. Earl was not in the office, so I took calls from his desk. Barbara Reynolds and Kent Wood had floating holidays today. Joe is still on vacation. Dolores and Bobbie both got E-time without pay. I was the only one left in the transition section. I sat next to a guy named Hal and near Margaret Lai. Margaret seems to know a lot. I took more orders today than ever before. I had one Disconnect, one New Connect, one T & F and RCF, one Change Order and one Record Order.

Hot Dogs were prepared for lunch for the entire office today. It’s all part of the morale and camaraderie game. The hot dogs were good though! That’s one nice freebie treat.

Karyn Kossoff took E-Time as well. I was to meet them all at Barnaby’s for drinks later. It turned out to be one very interesting evening. I got the feeling that a lot of people showed up there because I was introduced in the Office General Information File as loving to go there. Maybe not…who knows? Regardless, Colleen, the Supervisor, was there. She had a Perrier and an Irish Coffee. She’s nice, but…
Michelle Falls was there. She had an acne problem on her cheeks because you can see the after effects. She was born in England and she is nice, too. Her eyes are very spooky.

Lee Chandler made a late arrival and he and Colleen left together (they’re the two managers, so it was understandable). I did not really get to talk to them much.

Elizabeth Center (who is in my group) and I arrived together. She let me join her in her new Impulse automobile. I happened to notice that Michelle Falls had a nice black Ferraro car, too. Whoa! I danced with Michelle, Denise (AT&T gal and good friends with Ryan and Ron), Karyn and Elizabeth.

Fernando was there but he left early. Ron was asking me questions about Fernando, wanting to know more about his identity and role at the office. Linda left early because she had to drive to Fresno. She is leaving the office on Wednesday for good. Her husband is a coach and has a new job in Fresno. She is ready to scream about having to leave.

I spoke to Hank quite a bit. We spoke of earthquakes and each others’ feelings when one is close to death. I used my almost drowning incident before my 21st Birthday as an example.

I am sure now that Hank is attracted to me because he grabbed my crotch area when we all crammed into the elevator. That kind of ‘blew me away’. I think Ron and Ryan have some sort of attraction for me, too. I often hear those little snide whispering remarks. I can’t help but feel it’s about me at times because I get ‘the look’. There was one instance when Ron was mentioning voyeurs (people who enjoy watching others have sex).
“I’d like to be a voyeur,” I said.
“You should watch Ryan and me,” Ron said.
Ryan followed-up by saying, “We both once put an ad in the paper about two blond guys, inviting voyeurs to observe. Some fellas would answer the ad and jack off as they got into it.”
I was amazed to say the least. I thought my ‘I’d like to be a voyeur’ line would shock them but they shocked me right back! They were all drunk and on ‘who knows what’. Ryan gently placed his shoe near Tom’s rear end. Tom turned around in surprise.
“He enjoyed it,” I whispered in Ryan’s ear.
Ryan liked that comment coming from me. I could tell.

The mishap of the evening was when I saw Karyn on Tom’s lap. Then on another lap and another lap. Ron was on Elizabeth’s lap and vice versa. I was “invited” to get on Patty Reid’s lap. After a while, I wanted “OFF”. Then Patty wanted a kiss ‘Bye-Bye’, so I gave her a peck. She grabbed my neck and bit my lip! Ugh! It was not good. I then heard Karyn say, “I’m going to vomit!”
I observed Ron trying to control Karyn behind a nearby wall.

“Karyn is head over heels over you from the way she reacted,” Ron said.
I felt gross about kissing Patty (Fat Lard Lady) but I was in a drunkard stupor predicament. This is exactly how I explained it to Karyn (because it was true).
“I’ll never let you forget it,” Karyn said in an elevated non-Pebbles voice.
I thought, “That’s all I need…a reminder of that!”
PHOTO: Karyn Kossoff, 1984

By 9PM the group had diminished to Tom Kidwell, Ron Shelly, Elizabeth Center, Karyn Kossoff, Michelle Falls, Ryan Hargrave, Hank and I. We decided to all meet at Ryan’s apartment.

Karyn, Elizabeth, Michelle, Tom and I arrived before Ryan and Ron did. Karyn and I didn’t want to chance it like the last time, so we left via taxi and then via BART.
I was in bed alone by midnight or so.

I forgot another significant conversation of the day between myself and Patrick Woolridge. It was his last day in the SDC. He’ll be an ASR (Account Sales Representative) which is a managerial position but with not all that much more money. He wants to start his own communications consulting business with some other chap named Travis.
“I have a lot of recurring clients now,” Patrick explained.
Patrick turned out to be quite informative. He earned a 'simpatico' nod in my book.
“I would be out and into Directory Yellow Page Sales by January if I were you,” Patrick advised.
“I don’t know about that but that would be great!”
“Rene’s lover recently made Assistant Manager in Directory,” Patrick added.
I remembered meeting Rene’s lover at Irene’s party.
“I’d make a few phone calls to see what he could do because he knows a lot of people in Directory Sales and other departments. And try and get in close with Ethel because she is knowledgeable with a lot of people. She’ll help you as long as you help her. She’s getting older and is a bit worried about her place in the company.”

Patrick went on to explain that he has reassured Ethel that she’s the “Mother” of the office. Now I want to get in good with Ethel. I think I will get along with most everyone as long as I don’t judge tightly against any one.

I do want Directory Sales so bad. I now hope that Patrick might be able to pull strings for me.
“With your looks, smile and dress you can get into any choice department.”
Patrick was probably a bit sloshed when he made that comment. In either case, if he can make a move for me by January 1985, then Hurrah!

I received a surprise phone call from Helen Wong.
“I have a tentative Big Sale order for some Electronics firm to pass on to you,” Helen said. She also added that her condo is on hold temporarily.
“Do you think I can stay with you for a few days?”
“Sure.”

I am all for Helen staying over. I can just imagine the possible meals she’d make. She is fun. She may be moving in here (temporarily) on Sunday, October 14.

The Birth of a Candy Bar

Posted on 07:35 by Unknown
"All these experiences would be worthwhile if only you'd learn something from them. But you don't seem to. It's the same thing over and over with varying adjectives, and you learn nothing. In a few weeks you go haywire again in another direction."
-Nial Kent
"The Divided Path"

The Birth of a Candy Bar

One PAYDAY, MR. GOODBAR wanted a BIT-O-HONEY so he took MISS HERSHEY behind the POWERHOUSE on the corner of CLARK and FIFTH AVENUE.

He began to feel her MOUNDS (that was sure an ALMOND JOY) which made his TOOTSIE ROLL let out a SNICKER, as his BUTTERFINGER wet into her KITKAT and caused it to MILKY WAY.

She screamed, “OH, HENRY” as she squeezed his PETER PAUL and ZAGNUTS.
“You’re better than the THREE MUSKETEERS, she sighed.

Soon she was a BIT CHUNKY and nine months later she had a BABY RUTH.

Twenty-five years ago today:

October 11, 1984
Thursday

Yesterday, Betsy told me she was ordering a $100 Savings Bond for perfect attendance. Hurrah! I should win that one.

Barbara and I ate at the Chinese Restaurant called City Eats in the Galleria in SF. We had not been there in some time. We had a great laughter festival, talking about work and memories. Barbara has sent me some great cards in my day. I love that she writes me.

I got E time. Here in San Francisco they call AX (Absent Without Pay) time “E Time”. Lee Chandler was acting Assistant Manager and he gave me the time off at 3pm. That was cool.

I drove straight to mom’s house but must have just missed her as she was working the swing shift at the post-office. Dad was there.
“I’m going to call John because he needs a babysitter between the time he leaves for work and Sherri gets back from work,” Dad said.
I ended up doing the babysitting honors, but I took advantage of the space of time by bike riding until 4:30PM.

John got ready in his new black slacks and bow tie. He was looking all slick for his bar tending duties.

After my short babysitting duties were over I went for a short bike spin and then called Karyn Kossoff at 6PM. I drove over to her place and we watched some of the Vice-Presidential debate between George Bush and Geraldine Ferraro.

We followed that by going to a kids’ Toy/Halloween store on College Ave. I had fun putting masks on. We enjoyed an 8-inch (funny, yes) pizza. I had a black and tan sundae. We saw a Woody Wood Pecker and Chilly Willy T-Shirts. I got so excited about that.

Karyn just kept going with her Pebbles Flintstone giggles. We called it a night and I went on my merry way back home.

Karyn and I made tentative plans to get together to write a screenplay. I wonder what she thinks is up my sleeve? I mean, I’ve made no real initiation to get down her pants. Today she read a note on my desk of ‘Things to Do’ which included:

Send Suzy a Birthday Card (October 12)
Find my TAROT cards
Call Paloma

Oh well, if she saw any of my lists I have to realize that she doesn’t own me. It should not matter what she may be thinking. However, I did call her tonight and arrange to see her. She knows that I like spending time with her. I read all of the FRIENDSHIP verses in this new Journal book to Karyn. It got both of us ‘thinking’.

The friendship verse on the first page:

Friends do not live in harmony merely, as some say, but in melody.
-Henry David Thoreau (1817-1862)
American writer.

Acupuncture Benefits

Posted on 07:35 by Unknown
“The reason everyone gives in at the end is because they get tired of doing it on their own. They get lonely.”
-as heard while watching
the 1985 film
“Another Country”

I was amused by this 'Funny Acupuncture Commercial'. Watch it, please!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3DVN7XMiQk&feature=related

Don't let the funny video scare you. Acupuncture and alternative therapies are becoming more and more a beneficial 'way to go'.

Twenty-five years ago today:

September 21, 1984
Friday

This morning when the alarm rang I dreaded going to work. It was the knowledge of that one complicated T & F role play that I had to deal with. However, when I arrived at work I was finished by 9:30AM (before anyone else). I did forget a few things during the recorded role play. I will worry about it when they give my feedback on Monday.

I was hoping they would give me AX (Absent Without Pay) time but as it turned out none was given. We all played hangman all afternoon (Pat, Joe, Bobbie and I).
Bobbie wanted to go for a drink after work, so I ‘okayed’ the idea by joining her.

We had two ninety-nine cent Margaritas at Raggs. Then we went to Café St. Marcos for three Long Long Long Island Iced-Teas! We were buzzin’ when we left.

Bobbie wants me to join her and her friend from Chicago on Wednesday night for a real night on the town. I’m ‘all for it’. I could use a night on the town about then. Training will be just about over!

Bobbie and I had a great time last night at Café St. Marcos.
“I don’t miss much,” Bobbie said, “I don’t know about you Michael.”
She keeps saying that, too (‘I don’t know about you, Michael’).

We discovered that we are both pretty trustworthy. She’s a lot of fun and she loves observing people…as do I. My observing led me to notice others observing me at the Café St. Marcos on this very night. So it was a bit ‘uh-oh’.

And at lunchtime there was Barbara Reynolds and I going to the Security National Bank for a monthly BART ticket pass. Then we went on to the Galleria for a pizza and a browsing at the New Man (75% Off Sale). Bobbie wants to browse there with me next week. Barbara and I ate by the steps in front of the Foremost-McKesson Building. As we headed for Blum’s Sweets to browse a gentleman with jeans, plaid shirt and body excellence eyed me. I again felt a bit of an “uh oh”.

Bobbie shared with me that she was really saddened in 1979 by her brothers’ death.
“I even had to see a psychologist,” Bobbie said.
I expressed how glad I was to know that she had her niece (her brothers’ daughter) to spend time with from time to time.

Most of all, I want to be Bobbie's friend forever because she’s really special and she makes me laugh. I love the way she laughs. The sound of it tickles me. I hope she’s my ‘tub mate’ when we go into the actual Business Office.
“I’m only going to give the office a two month try and if it’s not to my liking I may not stay,” Bobbie announced.
This was a surprise for me to hear. She is so serious about wanting to concentrate on her own business. The idea of my own business (Michael J of New York) sounds more and more rewarding and worthwhile for me to think about, too. I want to do it but it’s the money. I need to go for it. I want to be my own little operation competing with Wilkes-Bashford and other specialty clothiers for men. It has to have that boutique shop edge with top-notch design. Time will tell.

Bobbie keeps hinting about our going into business together. She may be a ‘fly by night’ dreamer. I am into ‘clothes’. Her focus is something I am not really sure of at this time.

The Susan Boyle Sensation

Posted on 08:32 by Unknown

"I won't be lonely anymore."
-Susan Boyle,
comment on her sudden fame.

By now many of you have heard the singing sensation who became famous globally within a matter of twenty-four hours after appearing on the British reality talent TV show called "Britain's Got Talent". Her singing debut took place on April 11, 2009. She is already loved by so many all over the world. The expectations were nil as far as a great performance based on her appearance. She blew them away. KUDOS!
Take a look:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRC0V-dvNEg
So what if she's 48 years old, has frizzy brown hair and bushy eyebrows. This self-confessed virgin might easily be the next worldwide superstar.

The Susan Boyle Sensation will likely be the study of future Internet College Courses. The news spread so rapidly and everyone around the world was able to watch her sing via "www.YouTube.com" and other streaming video websites.

The other fascination of the week was made by Ashton Kutcher, the actor. He challenged CNN to become the first one on "www.Twitter.com" with over one million followers. Isn't his M.O. (modus operandi) simply to build his fan base? Most actors are lonely people and they wonder what it's like to be a regular person with "real people" in their lives. They always have the notion that someone likes them for their celebrity status. I believe Ashton Kutcher is an amazing marketing guy. Who else would marry a woman old enough to be his mother? That alone has given him much 'eye-opener' power as being 'different'. His wife, Demi Moore, was born in 1962. He was born in 1978. That's a sixteen year difference.

Now that Kutcher won the battle as the winning "Twitterer' with more than one million followers I expect him to now steal Sally Fields' famous Academy Award line:
"You really like me!"

Perhaps Ashton Kutcher is 'lonely', too, in many ways. We are all humans. We are always searching for more out of life.

I confess that I do my own fair share of tweets. I mostly use it as a place to denote the many quotes I read or hear in books, movies, periodicals and songs. I will share a little something else from time to time but I don't feel it's necessary to share the kind of soap I'm showering with this morning or what my plans are for any given moment. Get real!

The bottom line is that it's a wonderful feeling when you find someone that deserves the recognition. This time 'Susan Boyle' is winning the votes.

Twenty-five years ago today:

April 18, 1984, Wednesday

I was wearing my new gray boots that I purchased from HEADLINES, my black 501 jeans and my new jacket that I just purchased yesterday at MACY's. I looked cool. The material things are one thing but I never let 'things' go to my head.

At 9:30AM I called Chris on my first break. I love it when he's home. It's gratifying to know that he still gets excited when I call, too. It's true. I am quite excited when he answers the phone. We talked about the fun we had yesterday at A&W and the 10th Floor Furniture Department of MACY's. It's the 'just plain being together' part that makes it special.
"Barb made another snide remark about you being conceited," Chris secretly revealed.
"Oh, what did she say?" I asked.
"Oh you know when you said MACY's and then added 'M. A. Sees'," Chris said.
"Big deal!" I exclaimed. "So I'm 'stuck up' now.
We both agreed that Barb is a typical damn "wench" who annoys us after a while. I wonder if Chris is planting a seed for me to be against her. I wonder why.

I did mail a postcard to Barb and I wrote a key verse:
Treat your friends as you do your pictures, and place them in their best light.

I send a postcard to Chris, too. I transcribed these words from a female poet:
Men kick friendship around like a football but it doesn't seem to crack.
Women treat it like glass and it goes to pieces.

I wonder how they'll react to the thoughtfulness of my respective postcards. I do appreciate their friendship and hospitality. I like them both. Chris...even more.

After my sperm donation today I learned that my 'throat culture' test was negative. This means I am 'in the clear'.

I ended up getting a haircut today at "Proper Cuts". There was some dense chick there named, Rose, who cut my hair. I would have rather been clipped by James again. The cashier, Mona, gave me the biggest smile one would NOT believe. I guess I really did look good in my new boots and jacket. Ha...or is it just "moi"?

I ate tacos for dinner tonight. I dropped over at SAFEWAY because I have to bring 'treats' for tomorrow's meeting. I bought some stamps for cards I'm sending to Michael Thoennes, Chris & Barb and 'James The Dog'.

DYNASTY was not on television tonight. That's okay. I can live without it.

Chris is a bit bummed out about his friend, Clay. He is not looking forward to his coming up to Arcata to stay for 30 days!
"If I had to choose between Clay's friendship or yours it would definitely be you," Chris confessed.
That made me feel good in a strange sort of way. Chris makes me feel special and wanted. He's great for my morale boosting.
"You're the best thing that's ever happened to me." Those words are still ringing in my ears. It's true for me, too. He means more and more as time goes by.

Helen asked, "When are you coming for dinner?"
"When I'm invited," I replied.
I kept it quiet that Wednesday evenings is one of my "every-other-night" bicycling nights. It's also the Sperm Bank evening.

I am so happy that payday is tomorrow. I want my IRS refund check, too! Money, Money, Money...I want that rug that I saw at MACY's.

This Friday is Good Friday and I may accompany Helen Wong and Barbara Reynolds to the 1 o'clock mass at the local church. God is with me. I know because I feel like a 'Happy Man' (like the 1981 Greg Kihn song).

"Successfully forecasting short term stock price movements is something we think neither we nor anyone else can do."
-Warren Buffett

In Jerusalem, a female CNN journalist heard about a very old Jewish man who had been going to the Western Wall to pray, twice a day, everyday, for a long, long time. So she went to check it out.

She went to the Western Wall and there he was! She watched him pray and after about 45 minutes, when he turned to leave, she approached him for an interview.
"I'm Rebecca Smith from CNN. Sir, how long have you been coming to the Western Wall and praying?"
"For about 60 years."
"60 years! That's amazing! What do you pray for?"
"I pray for peace between the Christians, Jews and the Muslims. I pray for all the hatred to stop and I pray for all our children to grow up in safety and friendship."
"How do you feel after doing this for 60 years?"
"Like I'm talking to a fuckin' wall."

Twenty-five years ago today:

March 14, 1984, Wednesday

I had some rude and atrocious customers. They gave me such a bad time today. I managed to survive. I am still wondering about Chris Cordellos. I pulled up his telephone account in Concord (672-6602) and learned that he had many long distant calls made to Arcata. The Arcata telephone number belongs to Chris Cordellos (not a Bob or Ginger) where he had told me he was supposedly staying. He has an additional white page listing under the name of Jim (something or other) at his Arcata address. I don't understand it.

Chris had previously told me that Jim lived with him in Concord with his mother. Jim had moved out and now his mom lives at the Concord apartment.
"I found a new pad effective Thursday, March 15th," Chris had said.

It will be interesting to learn if he gives me that same Arcata telephone number and address. There seems to be an untold story somewhere.

Tonight I fled on a bicycle ride until about 6:45pm. I came home to eat my cheesecake that I never finished (homemade by Howard Edelstein). Then I ate some leftover La Val's Pizza and sunflower seeds.

I called Nadine DeShera and we talked for about an hour. We discussed my favorite KQAK-alternative rock tunes versus her love for specific soul tunes. She works at Triple A (The California Automobile Association) and shared her frustrations about her job. We talked more about the Black Angus on Saturday night, our weekends and just plain 'laughed a lot' over more small talk. She was expecting some old high school friends to visit.

I concluded my evening with a Dynasty episode. I recalled what Ben had said at work today.
"Dynasty is the same as all of the daytime soaps but with a higher budget," Ben shouted in the break room.
It is true. The show has such panache. I envy it. I think I would love to be on a daily soap making $200,000 a year. What a dream? Is it possible? I might look into it sometime.

Everybody Knows

Posted on 09:04 by Unknown

"There is a logic of colors, and it is with this alone, and not with the logic of the brain, that the painter should conform.
-Paul Cezanne

This weekend will be the 'Watchmen' Weekend. It's a sure fire WIN at the box-office. I'm not sure if I will be able to see it this weekend. I hope to. The timing is uncertain.

Another photographer pal named "Ena Lu" that I admire reminded me of a song by Leonard Cohen that I had forgotten about. I love the tune (Everybody Knows) and I chose to feature it here today.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_G0ImViRw8
PHOTO: 'What Water Gives' by Ena Lu
Ena Lu lives in Melbourne, Australia
Let's sing-a-long...
Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows that the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died
Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long stem rose
Everybody knows
Everybody knows that you love me baby
Everybody knows that you really do
Everybody knows that you've been faithful
Ah give or take a night or two
Everybody knows you've been discreet
But there were so many people you just had to meet
Without your clothes
And everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
And everybody knows that its now or never
Everybody knows that its me or you
And everybody knows that you live forever
Ah when you've done a line or two
Everybody knows the deal is rotten
Old black Joe's still pickin' cotton
For your ribbons and bows
And everybody knows
And everybody knows that the plague is coming
Everybody knows that its moving fast
Everybody knows that the naked man and woman
Are just a shining artifact of the past
Everybody knows the scene is dead
But there's gonna be a meter on your bed
That will disclose
What everybody knows
And everybody knows that you're in trouble
Everybody knows what you've been through
From the bloody cross on top of Calvary
To the beach of Malibu
Everybody knows its coming apart
Take one last look at this sacred heart
Before it blows
And everybody knows
Everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows
Oh everybody knows, everybody knows
That's how it goes
Everybody knows

Helen and I ate at "Fats". We discussed the mysterious Nadine given the fact that I have not met her face-to-face. We concluded the possibility of her being "Fat". Helen and I discussed how it is hard to find someone with all of the right qualities.

I attended my ART class this evening. It was 'okay'. And I mean 'just okay'. I am not too pleased with the class when I consider the $130 cost. My Communications Graphics class at Sacramento State was much better. This course will just have to do. It does break the monotony of my work week.

I was upset this morning to learn that Chris Cordellos was robbed at the High Street Shell Oil gas station at gunpoint by some "blood"! Outrageous!

After ART class I returned home and rapped on the phone with Nadine. She is really nice over the telephone. I am now wondering how "Fat" she may really be. We made plans for a movie and eats tomorrow night.

PHOTO: I saw this woman in NYC, reading a book (A Fiery Hint of Murder by C.F. Roe). I wonder if she has ulterior motives. Yikes! I looked for the book on amazon.com and it seems to be quite rare and not easily accessible (only used copies are available). It just made me wonder. I love a random, spontaneous slice-of-life candid. I must remember that it is always the innocent looking ones. You just NEVER KNOW.

Chris called me from Arcata, CA. Thanks to call waiting he interrupted my call with Nadine.
"I'm so glad to be back in Arcata," Chris said, "only I am not so glad because of you."
He's too kind. I am glad we toasted to everlasting friendship when I saw him last. I do recall toasting to that one before. However, I think 'with him' I feel truth and agreement.

A Night With 'Insignificant Others'

Posted on 10:25 by Unknown

"When all seems insignificant I remember there's you."
--Jay Kuo

Last night was a wonder of fun, energy and delight while watching the San Francisco musical performance of "Insignificant Others". It was about five friends who move from other parts of the country to San Francisco to find love, adventure, friendship, hope and more. It was the closing night show. I can see it coming to New York or some other major city one day. It's a feel good kind of show. I loved the tunes "Beautiful", "So Many Things", "Tell Me Why", "Do People Just Move On?" and "Evolutionary". The writer, Jay Kuo, is clever. I look forward to more of his musical shows as he soon departs to New York City.

I was lucky to be around a number of very "significant" friends and family during my day and night in the City. It makes me want to venture out to San Francisco more often. I feel fortunate that when I reminisce back twenty-five years ago that many of the people I write about are still in my life. Of course some have come and gone and I wonder whatever happened to them...but they were in fact significant at the time...and who knows if they'll re-enter my life again one day.

Twenty-five years ago

Work was through in a flash. I arrived home and was just about to step into the shower when Jackie Woods telephoned. We talked only a couple of minutes. She said she'd call back after my shower but never did.

Frank Vasconcellos called and we talked a good while. My brother, John, stepped out to go to Safeway for groceries. Frank warned me against Bill Helbush.
"You might 'catch' something from that one," he said.
I laughed.
After I hung up the phone I became leery of my own laugh and the romantic incident with Bill. My tongue had some blisters which were irritating me. I had some small red spots that were itching but chalked it up to my occasional eczema (dry skin) during this season. I am hopeful the itch and irritation will pass soon. If not, I will have to try and cure myself and/or see a doctor. I fear herpes with all of the talk of how it has become so common. I have been bathing regularly. I love a bubble bath and appreciate them so much. I tend to feel so much cleaner. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

John returned home and we watch 'The Whiz Kids'. Soon John left to see Sherri and I hung out at home alone. 'Dynasty' was on and it was "the drama" to watch. I enjoyed my time alone and munched on a few of mom's M&M cookies, too.
