‘The house and my life now were like things I could shape in my hands, like arranging flowers or painting, something I was creating and of which I was also a part.’

Twenty-five years ago today:
November 10, 1984
Saturday
I awoke at 9am, got dressed and called mom to invite myself over. I had some EGGO waffles there while we had a good, loving chat together. Dad added some interesting talk, too.
Dad said, “I went to John’s house the other day and met a thirty-four year old girl who is the daughter of someone named Baker, an editorial speaker on Channel 2 while Sherri was away at work.”
“What?”
“John said she is most likely the one who will move in with him when Sherri moves out,” Dad continued.
My face was blank. I was a bit dumbfounded by this when I especially know that Sherri loves John and wants to work things out.
If Sherri is on a ‘one way street’ and John is on another street it makes one feel bad in all sorts of ways. Sherri had told me in a previous conversation that John was jealous of our friendship. According to Sherri, John was also disturbed by mom becoming such good friends with Sherri. Usually, the mother-in-law has to fight it out with the daughter-in-law but in this case the son (John) wants his mom to himself (that's how Sherri described it). It is strange. John is still too immature. I care too much about Sherri to see her get hurt. I won’t even get into the matter of Ashley! I’d like ‘Sherri and Ashley’ to move in with me—but who knows?
Helen helped me wrap mom and dad’s Christmas gift.
“You know, Michael, if you want…you could move in with me at my condo in Oakland,” Helen stated sweetly.
I didn’t really get into that subject but thanked her for her thoughtfulness. I was sure Tony would probably win out on that offer.
It is raining once again. There is no mail. Mom and I plan on going to MACY’s today.
MACY’s was okay.
“Do you want to eat dinner with Dad and me at the SIZZLER later?” Mom asked.
“Sure, I’m just going to take a little nap first.”
I went over to mom and dad’s and accompanied them for dinner. It was fun. They make me laugh. After dinner I stayed at their place and we watched “A Woman of Substance, Part I”. We also watched the end of the Benny Hill comedy hour. Dad loves to laugh at Benny Hill. I laughed, too. After that show I departed for home.
