"I Forgive You"

"At 94 years old, Kitty Carlisle Hart said to me, "Every night before I go to bed I look in the mirror and say 'I forgive you, Kitty'."
-Tommy Tune
on the subject of
wisdom with age
Yesterday, February 28, 2009 was Tommy Tune's 70th birthday. Alan and I found ourselves at the McCallum Theater with dear friends for a 'Tommy Tune' On-Stage performance. It started with his tap dancing tutorials and ended up becoming a fabulous peek into his history as a performer. It was a thrilling one and a half hours of entertainment. After the show we were lucky enough to be allowed entry into the 'Gene Autry Green Room' backstage. While we were waiting for Tommy Tune to appear I recognized actress Liv Tylor. That was a thrill even if I could only remember her from a 'Lord of The Rings' movie.
I have never seen any of Tommy Tune's shows on Broadway. Now I want to see him in his only two films ('Hello Dolly' & 'The Boyfriend').
While watching the show I loved a line Tommy used in the show that seemed appropriate to repeat for his birthday.
And so, I said it. "You are a genius, of course".
He thought about my statement for just a second and said with a smile,
"You really listened to the show". That was a great moment for me as I proceeded to introduce him to our friends, Charlie and Debi. I managed to take a quick photo of him as he was presented a Birthday cake (above).
Tommy shared with the audience the many talented ones that he has had the opportunity to dance alongside with (Barbra Streisand, Carol Channing, Gregory Hines, and so many more). I was amazed to find this cool film clip of Tommy Tune dancing with Ann Reinking:

When I telephoned Paloma to learn if she might join me and Chris at "Echo Beach" for dancing tonight she was unsure. I told her I would definitely be there.
I went to Grodin's during my lunch hour and bought new shoes, a purple shirt and a sweater. Total: $100. That's "it" for the month!
I kept recalling the events of yesterday while at The Sperm Bank. I saw all of the mobile sperm fluttering around under the microscope.
"See all those cuties," Robin said.
Robin works there and is ever-so-sweet. It appears that Phase II and Phase II of the sperm donor process are still ahead. I guess that means two more ejaculations and a complete physical. It should all turn our fine. At least I hope so.
Paloma called once again.
"I am going to work out and I will see how I feel afterwards about going to 'Echo Beach'," Paloma said in her flamboyant French accent.
I think she may surprise me and appear. If not...forget it!
Later that night Chris called to say, "I hope you don't mind the way I'm dressed."
I wonder what that is supposed to mean? When I consider the way he has dressed in the past I am sure it won't be too surprising. Or will it? I hope my purple sweater and shirt are fine. I guess he now has me self-conscious.
Chris arrived and he looked fine. I drove out to 'Echo Beach' were we hung out and people watched. Chris seemed uncomfortable because he'd usually be out dancing almost immediately. I think he was unsure about leaving me alone while he danced. I would more than likely follow his lead and dance too. In any case we ended up leaving the club at midnight because we came to realize that Thursday was '18 & up' night and the crowd was too teeny-bopper. We did have the munchies and went out for a light bite.
We soon returned to my pad on Harbor Bay Isle. Chris tucked me in and we had our own little climactic experience. I had slight feelings of depression and uncertainty during the aftermath. I am not sure why. Is it because it's "him" and not "her"? He is my number one 'good buddy' at this point.
